Embroidery By Marilyn
“I was always a person who liked to sew so this seemed like a good idea,” says Marilyn Watson owner of Embroidery by Marilyn in Elkton, Md.
She also thought that one day she would be a business owner. When she was offered a buy-out from the DuPont Company, Marilyn became the entrepreneur she always planned to be, creating the embroidery business that bears her name. “It’s been 23 years,” she says.
Marilyn likes to say that her customers are “everyone and no job is too small. We take ‘onesie’ jobs to large orders.” She also promotes embroidery as an alternative to screen printing because “it lasts longer, looks better, and is just a more professional look.” She recently saw some of her work at a recent horse show and noted that the job was part of an order from 15 years ago. “And it still looked great,” she smiled. Her machines can also embroider just about anything with up to 15 colors.
Business has always been good and Marilyn plans to continue for many more years. “This is a family business and my husband and children help out when I need them.” She is proud of her low prices “because we have very little overhead, all of my equipment is paid for.”
Embroidery by Marilyn is located at 1172 Leeds Road in Elkton. Look for the big sign. “My husband put that sign up a few years ago, it’s been good for business. People just stop in.”

Premier Auto and Tire and Premier Auto Sales
Brandon and Nicole Hollenbaugh have been Union Hospital Cornerstone Society members for four years. Last month they became Gold Preferred Partners in the Employee Discount Program. Brandon is the owner of Premier Auto and Tire and Premier Auto Exchange. “We like giving back to the community,” says Brandon. “The Cornerstone receptions are great events for meeting other business people in the area. We all have the common goal of supporting local business and helping the hospital in any way we can.”
A longtime Cecil County resident, Brandon grew up with cars. “My father owned a gas station on Bridge Street and I was definitely my father’s son. I followed him everywhere at the station and soaked up as much about cars as I could. ” Ten years ago Brandon opened his first of three Premier Auto and Tire locations. “I knew I always wanted to be an entrepreneur,” he says. The first location on Route 40 started small with two bays, the facility now boasts eight. The second location is on Main Street in Elkton with the third shop located just off Main Street in Newark, Delaware. Combining his business acumen with cars led to the opening of Premier Auto Exchange last year. “We specialize in cars selling for under $10,000 and we take care of the Maryland State Inspection on each vehicle which saves people about $1,000.
Brandon is happy to have his wife as a valuable business partner. “Nicole serves as our vice president with much of her time spent in accounting.” The high school sweethearts are the parents of two boys ages 17 and 14. The family contributes time and effort to a number of Cecil County nonprofits including Cecil College offering a $1,000 business scholarship annually. Brandon is also involved with Mount Aviat Academy and is a member of the Elkton Rotary Club.
